NATALIE FRIJIA, Playwright
Natalie Frijia a Toronto-based playwright, circus stage manager, and educator currently in the PhD program at the University of Toronto's Graduate Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies, and the School of the Environment. Upcoming projects and productions include: tech direction for the Toronto Festival of Clowns; BikeFace (CAFF Fringe Tour, 2017); Divine (Summerworks Festival 2017). When Natalie isn't working on a theatrical production of some sort, she can be found riding her bike, studying static trapeze, or leading walking tours through downtown Toronto, sharing the dark and unexpected stories that once happened, right below our feet.

ARA GLENN-JOHANSON, Director
Ara Glenn-Johanson is a director-choreographer and performer. Projects include Flooded (Pirate Life Boat, NorthAmerica), Parallax (Alumnae, New Ideas), Act 3 - The Love Act of The Lily's Revenge (American Repertory Theater), Mankind (NYC Cloisters, PLS), The Magic Fish (Boston's Outside The Box), and She Kills Monsters (Boston Center for the Arts). Her contemporary performance works have been curated in New York City, San Francisco, Toronto, San Diego, and Boston; she was an Artist-in-Residence at The Headlands Center for the Arts among others. As a performer, she has appeared at the American Repertory Theater, the Magic Theater, and on international tours with PLS and Mugwumpin. BFA: NYU-Tisch. MFA: UC Davis.

Shirley is a playwright and dramaturge who has often worked with Alumnae. She dramaturged Norman Yeung’s Theory (Fireworks 2013), Chloe Whitehorn’s Divine Wrecks (Fireworks 2015) and Natalie Frijia’s Buy My House (New Ideas, 2015). Shirley has had several plays produced in New Ideas, Measure of the World was in Fireworks 2013, I am Marguerite on the mainstage in 2015 and Queen Marie will end the mainstage program of Alumnae’s 100th year in April 2018.

Carina has been involved with Alumnae in various capacities since 2014, from sitting on the board to treading the boards. She founded a theatre company in the spring, Theatre UnBlocked, whose inaugural production of Proof garnered much critical acclaim. Production credits include: sound operator (Fireworks 2015), ASM (Rabbit Hole, August: Osage Country), AD/SM (NIF 2016). Recent acting credits include: Mousetrap (Confidential), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (SMT), Laramie Project (Plain Stage), Much Ado (Unit 102/Leroy), and a number of Ryerson and Humber student films.

Gillian is a Toronto-based theatre practitioner and academic. She has recently completed her MA in Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies at the University of Toronto where her research project and essay focused on gender-bent Shakespearean performance. Along with her academic pursuits, Gillian is also an aspiring director. Her selected credits include: Director on The Doorknocker (Drama Studio Series), AD on Much Ado About Nothing (Hart House Theatre), AD on The Seer and No Bombs on Monday (Commonplace Theatre), and Associate Director on Shakespeare Bash'd's staged reading of Volpone.

MELANIE LEON, Tina
Melanie received her training from UVic in BC. She last worked with director Ara Glenn-Johanson on Flooded, an experimental physical theatre piece that took place on a sailing boat. Recent theatre credits include CAESAR (Wolf Manor), Parallax (New Ideas Festival) and Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Amicus Theatre). Mel's 2D credits include playing Claire in AntiSocial and Erica in the upcoming webseries, Sherwood Manor (Wise Owl Productions). Melanie is touring the city with Spur of the Moment Shakespeare Collective this fall which brings Shakespeare to various hospitals in Toronto. When she’s not acting, Mel teaches pole dancing at Ultra Violet Pole Studio.

She is a graduate of George Brown Theatre School. Favourite credits: Marta (Waiting For The Parade; GBC), Hannibal (Happy End; GBC), Rosencrantz (Hamlet; Shakespeare BASH'd), ZIP (Shakey-Shake), Ursula (Much Ado About Nothing; Hart House), Brutus (Casear; Wolf Manor Theatre).

Film: Dim the Fluorescents (LaRue Entertainment, Slamdance 2017 Jury Prize), Cave Small Cave Big (Joële Walinga), The Feed (TonMan Productions) and Dogmouth (Dogmouth Productions). Television: The Blacklist (NBC).

Rouvan Silogix is an Actor/Writer/Director/Classical Pianist/Stand-Up Philosopher relatively new to Toronto via NY, where he was notably seen as Lucky in Waiting For Godot off-Broadway. During his time in Toronto, he has directed Professionally Ethnic at New Ideas Festival 2017, and again at SummerWorks Festival 2017. He has acted in a number of independent shows, and his show (Writer/Director) - Grab 'Em By The Pussy: Or How To Stop Worrying & Love The Bomb (Theatre ARTaud/Filament Incubator), premieres this Oct/Nov at the Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace. As a writer, he has received numerous grants from the Ontario Arts Council.

JANE KIM, Costume Designer
Jane started her production career working in art and wardrobe departments for commercials and feature films over 15 years ago. She has since written and directed a number of independent short films and also works as a freelance media producer and festival programmer.

HALEY DUNCAN, Sound Designer
Haley is a recent graduate of York University’s Theatre productions program. In the past she has designed sound for Theatre@York’s Dream Play and also Sarnia’s WODL festival entry piece, Willow Quartet, which also played in Guelph. Recently she worked on Robert Fothergill's Godot prequel, Let's Go!.

KENDRA WASSINK, Costume Assistant
Kendra Wassink studied Theatre in Grand Rapids, Michigan at Calvin College and now works as a social worker in downtown Toronto after obtaining her MSW at Wilfrid Laurier. She is passionate about theatre that brings unique and impactful stories to communities and is honoured to be a part of the Costume Crew at Alumnae Theatre.
