The Heidi ChroniclesBY WENDY WASSERSTEIN
Directed by Ilana Linden Produced by Alison Smith Co-Producers: Chenyi Guo, Kim Croscup on the Mainstage: September 20 – October 5, 2019The Heidi ChroniclesAbout The Heidi Chronicles: The Alumnae Theatre Company opens its 102nd season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Heidi Chronicles. Over a span of 20 years, the titular character Heidi and her friends seek to achieve political, professional and personal fulfillment in a rapidly-changing world. Sharply observed, with hilarity and pathos, the play captures the experiences and anxieties of the baby boom generation, spanning the 1970s, with its consciousness-raising mania of the women’s rights movement and divisive politics of the Vietnam era, through to the AIDS epidemic and rapid economic changes of the 1980s. Still as relevant now as when it was first performed in 1988, the plays asks the question: can Heidi (and women in general) "have it all"? |
