Alumnae’s home for more than forty years has been the old Firehall No. 4 at 70 Berkeley Street and Adelaide. Built in 1900, this handsome building was renovated and restored by the Alumnae in 1972, and contains the fully equipped Main Stage and our intimate Studio theatre, as well as a workshop, backstage and lobby space, and a benign ghost.
Our Main Stage and Studio performance spaces are frequently rented by other theatre companies and by film and television crews for location shoots.
With a signed contract, we require payment of 50% of the rental fee + 50% of the cost of the rental supervisor’s hours + 100% of the damage deposit. The balance (50% of the rental fee + 50% of the cost of the rental supervisor’s hours) is due no later than one week before you load in.
The Main Stage
The Alumnae Main Stage is a traditional 140-seat black-box theatre, fully air-conditioned, and wheelchair-accessible. Rentals include lighting and sound equipment, and use of the dressing rooms, lobby, and box office. Box office staff and technical staff are not included.
Stage dimensions are 32.5′ wide, 28′ deep, and 16’2″ to grid. The depth of the stage is 28′ from the front of the stage to the back wall. We offer a full cyc, which provides a convenient upstage cross for the actors; with it, the depth of the stage is reduced to approximately 25′.
The Alumnae Studio is located in the attic of the theatre and features open wooden beams and large windows that can be hidden or exposed. Maximum capacity is 80 seats. Both the seating risers and the stage can be reconfigured (at an extra charge). The Studio is air-conditioned but is not wheelchair-accessible. Rentals include lighting and sound equipment, use of the dressing rooms located on the second floor, and the ground-floor lobby and box office. Box office staff and technical staff are not included. The stage is 20′ deep and 25′ wide.
Alumnae's fully accessible Heritage Lobby is available for rental independently of the two stages (when not being used in relation to performances). It is suitable for receptions (up to 60 people) and meetings (up to 20 people seated).
