Catherine Frid (Playwright)

Catherine is thrilled to be premiering Burying Toni at the Alumnae Theatre’s FireWorks Festival, where it received a reading at the Big Ideas Festival in 2012. Her produced plays include Over The Edge (New Ideas Festival and others), The Bold Canadian: Laura Secord and Her Legacy (Arts & Letters Club), Homegrown (SummerWorks and others), GuineaPigging (Alumnae Theatre), Dead Cat Bounce, (Toronto Fringe and others) and a number of shorter works. Publications include Us and Them in Thirtysomethings: Mother-Daughter Monologues and Community With Strangers, in Scenes from a Diverse World. Catherine is a member of the Alumnae Theatre, Playwrights’ Guild of Canada, Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal, Women Playwrights International and the International Centre for Women Playwrights. Upcoming: Artist in Residence at Osgoode Hall Law School (fall 2014); Our Voices: Senior Selfies in Eden Mills; and an Ontario Arts Council Playwright Residency at Mixed Company Theatre (spring 2015).
Ginette Mohr (Director)

A Toronto-based director, performer and playwright, Ginette is passionate about staging imaginative stories with dynamic physical expression at their core. She recently directed Life as a Pomegranate (Midtown International Theatre Festival, NYC - Best Director Nomination), The Underpants (Alumnae Theatre), The De Chardin Project (The Quickening Theatre) and Tikva’s Orchestra (Lab le Jeu – NOW Magazine Critic’s Pick for Best Director). With The Quickening Theatre, she co-created/performed in The Children’s Museum and wrote/performed in Fish Face (Cultch Theatre Award) and The Truth about Comets (Best of Fringe). For Keystone Theatre, she co-created/directed The Last Man on Earth and co-created/performed in The Belle of Winnipeg (Dora Nomination for Outstanding Performance). She is also thrilled to have collaborated/ performed in Ten Green Bottles (Te-Amim) and Gorey Story (The Thistle Project - Dora Nominations for Outstanding New Play and Outstanding Production). Other performance credits include The Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Neptune Theatre, Theatre New Brunswick, Drayton Entertainment, Theatre Aquarius, The Second City, The Edmonton Festival Ballet, and Monkey Toast (Canadian Comedy Award Winner).

Natalie Kulesza (Animus)

Born and raised in Toronto, Natalie has been playing as an actor, director and producer for the stage and film for the last 10 years. This is her premiere as part of the Almunae Theatre family and is thrilled to be part of bringing a new work to you for the time! When not hopping around town on her bike Anabell or the beloved 501, Natalie can be found at her kitchen table with a cup of decaf coffee writing and listening to the CBC.
Glenda Romano (Emma)

Glenda is glad to return to the stage after a successful teaching career. A graduate of York University's MFA acting program Glenda has appeared in productions such as The General (Theatre Direct), The Count of Monte Cristo (Earl Bale Park's summer theatre programme) and The Changling (Toronto Free Theatre) as well as various film and television roles. Glenda, a founding
member of Ursula Franklin Academy, created and headed its drama department where she produced and directed many student productions. Glenda is thrilled to have the opportunity be in the debut of Burying Toni at the Alumnae Theatre.

Jillian Welsh (Shadow)

Jillian Welsh is a musical theatre graduate from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. Some of her recent and favourite theatrical roles have been Phoebe in Humber River Shakespeare's As You Like It, Maria in Humber River Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and Miss Alma in Summer and Smoke. Jillian is also a member of The Reception a group of sketch comedians who write and perform sketch comedy across Canada and the US. Jillian is currently working with Pressgang Theatre on a new play about life in the food service industry; look for it this February. Thank you to Catherine Frid for writing such a great play and to all the brilliant women of Alumnae Theatre for creating this magical space where ideas grow. Enjoy the show!
Ada Aguilar (Stage Manager)

An up-and-coming Toronto-based stage manager, Ada Aguilar had her first start at Alumnae Theatre’s New Ideas Festival 2014 and is happy to be back stage managing Buying Toni for the Fireworks Festival. After just recently closing Radical which played at the Tarragon for the Toronto Fringe Festival as ASM, Ada is also currently collaborating with Character & Klatch as a production assistant on their latest project.
Marysia Bucholc (Set Designer)

At Alumnae Theatre, Marysia has designed sets for The Killdeer, After Magritte/The Real Inspector Hound, A Delicate Balance, Pride and Prejudice, Daughter of the House, and For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again. Other credits include If We Were Birds
(Randolph Academy), The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (Randolph Academy), Peggy’s Song (Montybaby Productions), Heart and Music 2010 (Winter Garden Theatre), Little Murders (Riverdale), Adam’s Attic (Bespoke Theatre), and A Streetcar Named Desire (Upper Canada Repertory Company). She received a Dora nomination in 2006 for her design for Kafka and Son (Theaturtle). Marysia is also an Academic English tutor at Centennial College and the proud mother of three wonderful young adults.

Aaron Corbett (Composer)

Aaron Corbett is a composer and producer originally from Kenora Ontario. This is his second time working with Alumnae Theatre, having performed an original score to 2013's production of "The Underpants". A graduate from Metalworks Institute's "Audio Engineering & Production" program in 2012, Aaron writes and produces music with a variety of local talents, including Brooklyn Doran, Ruby Cikada, and with his own band After Hours. He recently produced the music for the multi-media theatrical production of "Clown Palace", which opened in the country of Andorra in September, and is currently teaching Pro Tools and Recording Theory at Find A Way studios.
Gabrielle D'Angelo (Sound Design)

Gabrielle D'Angelo has always had a passion for music, this led her to study music production and audio engineering at Metalworks Institute. Since graduation Gabrielle has worked independently as a studio, mix and live engineer. She has recently begun working in post production and composition work for the stage. This is her second year working as the Sound Designer for Alumnae's Fireworks festivals. Previous plays include: Measures Of The World, Gloria's Guy and Theory.
Kat Horzempa (Assistant Director)

Toronto-based director, producer, actor, playwright and administrator, Kat recently spent two years teaching and producing theatre in Spain. Kat currently manages marketing and patron services for Native Earth Performing Arts and recently participated in Theatre Ontario's Professional Theatre Training Program, training in General Management and Tour Coordination with Roseneath Theatre. Kat was awarded an ACT-CO Festival Thea for “Biggest Risk” as director/co-producer of Anne-Marie Macdonald’s Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet).
Carolyn Zapf (Dramaturge)

Carolyn Zapf is a Toronto-based playwright, dramaturg, and publishing professional. She is currently co-artistic director of Alumnae Theatre’s New Ideas Festival and has served as dramaturg at the festival for several years. As a playwright, she has written commissioned works for theatres across Canada, including the Vancouver Playhouse, Montreal’s Saidye Bronfman
Centre, and the National Theatre School of Canada, as well as various works for children. She is a member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada, the Editors’ Association of Canada, and the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas, and sits on Alumnae Theatre’s Board of Directors.
